Dr Rishi Mehra

Dr Rishi Mehra is a staff anaesthetist, based in Melbourne at the Alfred Hospital. He was trained through the Austin Hospital and spent 18 months overseas in Ontario at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Canada. His is a senior lecturer with Monash University, and is the convenor of the Monash Perioperative Medicine Short Course (PMSC) for 2014. In addition, he has been involved in the setup and coordination of the Master of Perioperative Medicine, run through Monash University. He coordinates POM5001 – Perioperative Medical Care for the Cardiac Patient.

He has echocardiographic qualifications and has a recognised fellowship in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and cardiothoracic intensive care (Diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography). His areas of interest include high risk anaesthesia and perioperative medicine (cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, major thoracic surgery and abdominal vascular procedures), medical education and airway teaching.

Dr Lahiru Amaratunge

Dr Lahiru Amaratunge believes in improving the safety and quality of patient care through a patient centred approach, improving the knowledge and skills of the healthcare team, advancing the healthcare systems that allow us to deliver exceptional healthcare and practising comprehensive perioperative medicine.

Lahiru has a special interest in anaesthesia for vascular, thoracics, orthopaedics, obstetrics, general, ophthalmology and ENT surgery. Additionally, he is skilled in ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia and acute pain management.

Lahiru graduated from Monash University with honours and completed his general medical and anaesthetic training at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. He gained further specialist training at the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Royal Women’s Hospital and completed a general and simulation fellowship year at Western Health and the Royal Darwin Hospital.

Lahiru is an instructor for the PROMPT obstetric programme, the ACE airway course, and am committed to the teaching of medical students, junior doctors and anaesthetics trainees.

He is a member of the ASA and ANZCA.

Dr Suthan Sundaram

Dr Sundaram is a consultant anaesthetist and perioperative clinician.   His practice to date included anaesthesia at Eastern Health, along with numerous private hospital appointments throughout Melbourne and a growing perioperative practice.

Suthan has trained at some of Melbourne’s leading teaching hospitals and has completed advanced qualifications in echocardiography, research and perioperative medicine.  He continues to pursue education through regular review of evidence-based literature, courses and meetings.  Suthan was also involved in the teaching students and trainees at Eastern Health.

Suthan believes that complete perioperative care is fundamental to improved patient safety and outcomes. He has adopted this philosophy in his daily anaesthetic practice and is actively developing new ways to enhance the patient perioperative experience.

Dr Daniel Stiglitz

Dr Daniel Stiglitz is a consultant anaesthetist and perioperative physician. He enjoys combining his public practice at Alfred Health with his private practice throughout  Melbourne.

He completed anaesthetic training at the Alfred hospital in Melbourne in 2011. During his training he gained valuable skills, treating highly complex patients. Daniel enjoys the challenge of high risk anaesthetics and is dedicated to improving medical practice through perioperative medicine.

He is passionate about education and as such enjoys teaching other specialists, registrars and medical students. He has been involved in several teaching programs including the PROMPT course through Western Health, The national airway refresher course, theatre nurse teaching, and regularly delivers lectures and tutorials.

Daniel has participated in the H.A.R.T scan workshop: Haemodynamic Echocardiography Assessment in Real Time, Perioperative Medicine Short Course (The Alfred Hospital and  Monash University), Ultrasound in Anaesthetics and Critical Care Workshop (Australian Institute of Ultrasound), Early Management of Severe Trauma (Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Victoria) and Emergency Management of Anaesthetic Crises (St Vincent’s Hospital).

Daniel also has a keen interest in clinical research. He believes best practice is based on evidence based medicine.
